Qigong
Qigong is an ancient exercise system that has been used in China, for over 3,000 years to bring human beings to a high level of health and vitality. While using sound biomechanical alignments and understanding of the physical anatomy, these exercises strive for the goal of improving more than just the muscular system of the body. This is achieved by relaxation and releasing of the gross and subtle tensions held in the body. The ancients found that it takes training and skill to learn how to release and let go and once that skill is learned it can improve everything, from strength and balance to nerve & blood flow.

Originally brought to the west by Taoist Lineage Holder, Bruce Frantzis, this set is considered to be the jewel in the crown of all Taoist longevity practices. While for an advanced practitioner it serves as the perfect container for all the 16 nei gungs or inner skills, in the beginning just learning and practicing the basic physical movements can have a dramatic impact on your health.

What You Will Learn in this Workshop
with Aaron
Over the course of the weekend, you will learn how to recognize and release subtle and gross tension in your body. You will discover new ways to move and use your body that will energize and
heal rather than diminish or harm.
I was going to offer this as a retreat option but after feedback from several local participants, I have decide to offer a weekend format so that more people could have an opportunity to participate. The beginners and novices, you can get the best start possible on your journey towards better health. For the intermediate and more advanced, this will be a great opportunity to dive deeper and reap even more benefits from your practice.
The External Skills
The Movements
There are 6 Spherical Movements in this set. Each one has a specific purpose and builds on the one before it. Throughout this workshop we will work our way through each movement sharing the larger details and refining the more subtle internal aspects of each one.
While practicing these exercises will improve your overall health, relaxation and stability, this set is particularly good at strengthening and balancing the hips, back, and spine.
The Internal Skills
Alignments
One of the most neglected areas I have found for most practitioners from any tradition, is a clear and usable understanding of how to align the body in a way that it can function as well as possible.
You will learn how to recognize when an area is out of alignment as well as techniques for how to return that area to a more aligned and better functioning position.
These alignments can be transferred to any other activity you may be involved with including Tai chi or Qigong.
Lengthening
Lengthening the soft tissues of the body is one of the first internal skills that should be learned as it opens the doorway to more subtle and deeper internal skills.
The first step you will learn is how to release any tension in your nerves and muscles, and remembering that stress is just a fancy word for tension this skill can be a real lifesaver for anyone.
From here you will learn, how to lengthen out away from your body and in toward your body. This helps clear and balance one of the main energetic flows in your body. You will then learn to separate out this lengthening and be able to focus on more specific areas including the yin and yang meridians, and all of the remaining soft tissues not just your muscles.
Originally this skill is taught in the "Marriage of Heaven and Earth" Qigong but one of the hallmarks of "Gods Playing in the Clouds" is that it can serves as a container for all the internal skills in found in the Energy Arts 16 part neigung.

Putting It All Together
This set relates to Earth element and like the earth is all inclusive. We will work both aspects of a person, internal and external, and then we will explore new ways to maintain a stability while working with both. You will walk away with a appreciation not only of this set but also with the tool you need to use it to enhance your life.
